how the crab ranks

the saved picks come from claude's own knowledge. it chose and ordered them from what it learned about each city's food scene: michelin stars and bib gourmands, james beard awards, critics' and local best-of lists, how long a place has been loved, and how often it comes up as a must-visit. it also aimed for a spread of neighborhoods, cuisines and price levels.

it's judgment, not a formula. no reviews were pulled or averaged and nobody paid to be listed. #1 is the strongest pick, but the gap between #8 and #11 doesn't mean much.

the stars are estimates. they're claude's best guess at each place's typical score on big review sites, not live numbers from google or yelp, which this page can't reach.

prices come from claude's latest menu info and are before taxes, tips and fees. menus change, prices go up and places close, so check before you go.

small towns have fewer saved spots because the crab only saved places it's confident are real, and only the dishes it's confident they serve.

scouting asks claude live, on your claude account: a new city, a full 25, 25 more (up to 300), or a full menu (up to 12 more dishes). it ranks the same way and is told to stop when it runs out of places or dishes it's sure about, so a list can end before 300 and a menu before 10.
